Meet Bleepster, an independent Chrome extension that mutes profanity in captioned YouTube videos with included AI, word-level timing, and honest status.
What Bleepster does
The extension reads an available YouTube caption track, uses included AI to identify profanity in context, maps the result back to caption timing, and briefly changes the local tab audio. Users can choose clean silence or a classic bleep.
Bleepster is available from the Chrome Web Store. It is not affiliated with YouTube or Google; YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.
Product principles
- Honest status. If captions or analysis are not available, Bleepster reports the limitation instead of showing false protection.
- Audio stays local. The extension does not download, record, store, or upload video audio.
- Low setup friction. AI is included and does not require users to obtain a separate API key.
- Useful household controls. Parent PIN, Safe start, and visible protection status support deliberate family viewing.
- Clear boundaries. Bleepster does not claim to evaluate visual content or replace account, browser, device, or adult supervision.
Privacy in one paragraph
Caption text is sent over HTTPS through an authenticated Bleepster server function to Qwen on Alibaba Cloud Model Studio for analysis. Audio processing remains local.
