YouTube Profanity Filter for Family Viewing

Use Bleepster for family YouTube viewing with Parent PIN, Safe start, caption-aware filtering, household setup guidance, and clear limitations.

By lirik
Bleepster is a focused family-viewing tool: it mutes detected profanity inside captioned YouTube videos. Parent PIN protects extension settings, Safe start can hold playback until analysis is ready, and the status panel says when a video cannot be protected.

A practical family setup

  1. Install Bleepster in the Chrome profiles used for YouTube viewing.
  2. Choose clean silence or a classic bleep as the replacement sound.
  3. Turn on Safe start so playback waits for a protection result.
  4. Set a Parent PIN to make the extension settings harder for a child to change.
  5. Check the protection status before leaving a video to play.

What Parent PIN and Safe start do

Parent PIN locks Bleepster's settings behind a local code. Bleepster stores only a salted cryptographic hash of that code, not the code itself. The lock is designed to discourage casual changes inside the extension; it is not a device-wide parental control.

Safe start addresses the first seconds of playback. When enabled, it can pause or hold the video while Bleepster checks captions and prepares the mute timing, reducing the chance that speech plays before analysis is ready.

Use it with YouTube supervision controls

Bleepster filters moments inside a video. It does not choose which videos appear, remove visual themes, or replace age-based account settings. YouTube provides separate options for supervised experiences and family accounts. These tools solve a different part of the family-viewing problem and can be used together.

Know the limits before family viewing

  • A video needs an available, usable caption or transcript track.
  • Caption errors can lead to a missed or mistimed mute.
  • AI analysis can make mistakes, especially with ambiguous context.
  • The extension filters audio moments, not images or the overall subject of a video.
  • Parent PIN is not a substitute for an adult, browser controls, or device controls.

One Premium plan for a household

Premium removes the limit on newly analyzed videos and can be used by one household on up to five devices or Chrome profiles. It is billed monthly until canceled. The Free plan remains useful for trying the complete filtering workflow on 10 videos first.
